Balancing on a tightrope between deadpan humor and pathos, and reality and fantasy, the film presents Paul Giamatti as himself, agonizing over his interpretation of “Uncle Vanya”. Paralyzed by anxiety, he stumbles upon a solution via a New Yorker article about a high-tech company promising to alleviate suffering by extracting souls. An official selection of the Sundance, Seattle and Los Angeles film festivals, the film also stars David Strathairn, Dina Korzun and Emily Watson.

 

Director Sophie Barthes will be present for a Q&A, hosted by a film critic. Prior to the screening at 7pm, wine and cheese will be served.

 

About the REEL INSIDER series:

On Tuesday nights catch the newest in independent, foreign and documentary film with a discussion with an established critic and on occasion, film talent. Mingle before the screening with fellow film enthusiasts at a complimentary reception with refreshments.


• Complimentary refreshments start at 7:00 PM

• Screenings start at 7:30 PM

• A critic will lead a discussion, occasionally with film talent

Several years ago a group of concerned citizens in lower Westchester organized to save the 1920s Pelham Picture House, now listed on the NY State Register of Historic Places, from the wrecking ball. The Picture House will be restored and renovated to become a three-screen, state-of-the-art film and education center over the next few years and will entertain audiences with great movies – indies, foreign films, classics, shorts, animated films and documentaries from around the world. By inviting, actors, directors, producers, screen writers, and film critics to discuss their work, we bring the back lot to our front door.
